OUR STORY

the PROBLEM

The trucking industry is facing its biggest change in history. By 2040, all HGVs will need to be zero-emission; but right now, 96% run on diesel.

A shift of this magnitude needs big thinking. Instead of adapting current models, we decided to start from scratch: building a new vehicle for a new kind of trucking.

THE SOLUTION

We brought together a specialist team of automotive engineers, physicists, and mechanics, and worked to design a zero-emission hydrogen-electric HGV from the ground up.

Our work has attracted grants and endorsements from the UK government, private investment from EG Group, and other exciting announcements are in the pipeline.

    The first trailer pull with our hydrogen fuel cell HGV test vehicle was achieved.

  • HVS with four e-Mobilty Awards in January 2024 for innovation and ingenuity

    We won four E-Mobility Awards, recognising our innovation, ingenuity and achievements.

  • HVS testing underway in December 2023 on the dyno rig

    DECEMBER 2023

    Our test vehicle X1.5 undergoes dynometric testing to fine-tune the trucks’ power delivery.

  • HVS awarded Greenly's silver medal for outstanding climate strategy

    We’re awarded Greenly’s silver medal for our climate strategy, putting us in the top 10% of evaluated organisations.

    We excitedly reveal our ground-breaking HGV technology demonstrator at the Commercial Vehicle Show

  • MARCH 2023

    Funding is secured with Zenzic and Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) for our Hub2Hub Autonomous Hydrogen HGV project.

  • FEBRUARY 2023

    HVS wins the Best Fuel Cell EV category of the E-mobility Innovation Award.

    The Hydrogen Awards names HVS road haulage category winner at their inaugural awards ceremony.

    Jawad Khursheed is recognised as Business Leader of the Year at the Scottish Asian Business Awards.

    We proudly launch our MCV Technology Demonstrator to the world.

  • SEPTEMBER 2022

    We are successful in securing government funding for a £30m project through the APC, and a £25m injection from EG Group.

  • AUGUST 2022

    Jawad Khursheed wins Tech Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Scottish SME Business Awards.

  • JUNE 2022

    We continue to expand the team and move into Horiba MIRA at Nuneaton, Warwickshire, the new location for our R&D Centre.

  • JANUARY 2022

    We apply for APC20 and complete the two Innovate UK grant projects.

  • OCTOBER 2021

    We begin to grow again and start work on the MCV Technology Demonstrator.

  • JULY 2021

    We receive £5m in investment from EG Group.

  • JUNE 2021

    We successfully secure two further Innovate UK grants totalling around £500,000 for a hydrogen-powered ambulance design and a Medium Commercial Vehicle (MCV) Technology Demonstrator.

  • OCTOBER 2020

    HVS receives £50,000 from Innovate UK to undertake a hydrogen HGV feasibility study.

  • JULY 2020

    Our founding team prepares and directs the relaunch of HVS.

  • FEBRUARY 2020

    Jawad Khursheed takes over as Executive Chairman.

  • OCTOBER 2019

    The Company faces closure due to the combined impact of Brexit and investor market volatility.

  • AUGUST 2019

    We build our first early prototype.

  • JULY 2019

    VN5 Electric Van Senior Programme Manager Steve Clayton Joins HVS

  • JULY 2019

    We are awarded a Green Apple Sustainability Champion Silver Award.

    HVS wins Gold in the Automotive category for Environmental Best Practice in the Scottish Green Energy Awards.

  • MAY 2019

    The MCV is awarded Scottish Innovation of the Year at the Scottish SME Business Awards.

  • DECEMBER 2018

    Modec Electric Van Designer Pete Clark Joins HVS

  • DECEMBER 2018

    Designer of Aberdeen’s Event Complex Net Zero Energy Systems, Dr. David Telford, Joins HVS

    We participate in seed investment and successfully secure £800,000 from private investors.

    Jawad Khursheed joins HVS as Chief Business Officer.

  • NOVEMBER 2018

    We win an International Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice - Transport & Automotive.

    Our MCV is highly commended by GreenFleet Awards in the Industry Innovation Category.

  • SEPTEMBER 2018

    Following IP auditing, a successful application is made for our first patent.

  • JANUARY 2018

    We receive our first Scottish Enterprise grant of £4,900.

  • SEPTEMBER 2017

    HVS is founded in Scotland and opens its first Glasgow Office.
