HVS SUPPORTS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: AN INTERVIEW WITH STEPHANIE THOMSON

HVS Supports International Womens Day

We fully support International Women's Day (IWD) here at HVS. We are privileged to have a number of inspirational women who are all driving the business forward. Each of them being amazing role models, bringing many talents such as leadership skills and innovation. One such amazing colleague is Stephanie Thomson, Head of Corporate Services and one of the founders of HVS. We asked her to share her views on IWD and her time at HVS:

Stephanie Thomson, Head of Corporate Services:

“International Women's Day holds significance as a day to recognise and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women worldwide.

It's a time to reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to create a more equitable and inclusive society for all genders. Additionally, it's an opportunity to amplify the voices of women, raise awareness about issues affecting them, and advocate for positive change.”

What do you think makes an inspirational leader?

I think an inspirational leader possesses several key qualities that set them apart and enable them to motivate and guide others effectively such as leading by example - setting high standards for themselves and their team members. They demonstrate integrity, excellence, and accountability in their actions, which inspires others to follow suit.

Another quality is empowerment - inspirational leaders empower their team members by providing them with opportunities for growth, autonomy, and development. They trust their team members to make decisions and take ownership of their work, which fosters a sense of empowerment and motivation.

Inspirational leaders inspire others to reach their full potential by embodying vision, authenticity, empathy, resilience, effective communication, leading by example, empowerment, and a positive attitude.

How have you seen HVS change over the last few years?

HVS has evolved from a modest start-up, founded by 7 individuals, to a growing scale-up, boasting a workforce of over 100 permanent employees alongside 400 contracted professionals.

From team expansion to winning numerous industry awards and finalising our test trucks, HVS has surged from one success to another, showcasing remarkable growth and progress.

What advice would you have for women in this industry?

My advice to other women in this industry is to not allow setbacks or hurdles to deter you; have faith in yourself and cultivate a robust support system.

Recognise and rejoice in your accomplishments, regardless of their magnitude. The business terrain is ever-changing. Stay inquisitive, continue to educate yourself, and remain flexible in adjusting your strategies and methods to remain relevant and competitive.

‘Inspire Inclusion’ is a key theme of IWD this year, how will you achieve this?

By leading by example, actively demonstrating a commitment to inclusion in all aspects of the business practices. This can include diverse hiring practices, creating an inclusive work environment, and ensuring equitable opportunities for all employees. Encouraging open communication and creating a culture where everyone feels valued and respected. I will look to speak out against gender stereotypes and biases in the business world. Finally, I will advocate for equal opportunities and fair treatment for women in all industries.
